A dean at the University of Texas is standing down from his post in protest over a new state law which will permits students to carry concealed handguns on campus.
Dean Frederick Steiner says the policy is inappropriate and does not “make logical sense.”
He said:
“I grew up believing there was an appropriate place for guns and it was not in a place of higher education and higher learning.”

A number of students and higher education officials have expressed concern over the law, which will come into effect in August.
Those opposed to the law say it may discourage students from attending universities in Texas. Those in favor of the law say it’s “critical” for both self-defense and maintaining constitutional rights.
