Iceland Bank Sale Divides Profits with Citizens

Iceland’s Minister of Finance Bjarni Benediktsson has announced that each citizen of the country will get a pay-out of 30,000 ISK for the proposed sale of Islandsbanki.

The idea is to give 5% of Islandsbanki shares to the people.

The value of the bank is currently placed at 187 billion ISK, of which 5% is about 9.3 billion ISK. When divided between Iceland’s population, this makes it just short of 30,000 ISK for each citizen.
