High-ranking Thailand officials who make and accept bribes in government procurement won’t escape punishment under new penalties outlined in a draft law, according to the Bangkok Post.
Government procurement is the procurement of goods and services on behalf of a public authority, such as a government agency.
Manas Jamveha, director-general of the Comptroller General’s Department, said the new penalties are part of the government’s efforts to combat graft.
Chaninat and Leeds’ Thailand company registration lawyers have been assisting international and national business clients in Thailand since 1997.
Under the draft government procurement law, state officials charged with “misconduct or dereliction of duty that causes damage” can face a 2,000-20,000 baht fine and/or one to 10 years in prison.
The draft law also stipulates provisions for a committee to be formed to create policies and oversee government procurement, reports the Bangkok Post.
