Former Cambodia National Rescue Party Leader Orders Soldiers to Defy Current Cambodian Prime Minister

Prime Minister Hun Sen is suing former opposition leader Sam Rainsy who has been in hiding in France since 2015, for telling the military to not open fire on civilians. Rainsy implores that “we must not protect Hun Sen”.

According to Reuters, the disintegration of the CNRP has been condemned by rights groups as a hard hit to the democracy the UN helped work hard for in the 90’s. The US has taken back funding to help elections and the EU is considering withdrawing trade agreements with Cambodia.

Rainsy urges Western states to keep imposing sanctions; however Hun Sen disregards the sanctions and is building closer ties with China.
