The Bangkok Post reports that five company officials from Shanghai Husi Food Co. have been arrested by Chinese authorities following the case of expired meat being supplied to major fast food restaurants.
The scandal came to the public’s attention after an investigative report by a local television station revealed that a plant in Shanghai was mixing out-of-date meat with fresh product and relabeling expired goods, according to the Bangkok Post.

McDonald’s, KFC, Starbucks, Burger King, 7-Eleven, and Papa John’s Pizza were among some of the fast food chains in China that the factory supplied meat to.
Authorities shut down the plant reportedly responsible for the scandal in late July. The plant was a subsidiary of US food supplier, OSI Group, and was operated by Shanghai Husi Food Co.
In a statement the Shanghai Public Security Bureau said the five arrested are the company officials responsible for the incident, but did not disclose their names.
